£45 New Patient Assessment, including Treatment and Personalised Treatment Plan.
Calluses are layers of thickened, hard skin that build up over areas of high pressure, under the foot, heels and sometimes over toes with a deformity. A callus is the body's way of protecting high pressure areas.
Callus can be caused by:
Foot shape,
Health conditions like diabetes,
Ill fitting footwear,
Poor foot health and hygiene.
A callus can sometimes be lived with, however, too much build up over high pressure areas can result in pain when walking and standing, and in some cases can lead to skin breakdown under the callus and wound development.
Treatment:
As podiatrists, we are able to offer treatments to maintain and reduce the callus build up through treatments such as:
Debridement - use of sterile scalpel to reduce the callus,
Burr - mechanical file to reduce hard skin,
Urea based foot cream and treatments to reduce the build up of callus,
Offloading and padding,
Footwear assessment and advice.
In all cases, if needed, we can send a direct referral to your GP, or into Podiatry in the NHS,
We have seen it all at Torbay Podiatry!ry!
