Fungal infection in the toe nails is very common and often causes the toe nails to become discoloured, thick, chalky and sometimes painful. The nails often appear thickened and yellow / black in colour. 


Fungal nail infections can be caused by: 

Poor foot health hygiene, 

Ill fitting footwear,

Immune suppressed health conditions, 

Sporting activities.

Mechanical nail reduction, 

Burring the nail to reduce thickness,

Antifungal treatment starter kits, 

Advice for anti fungal treatments,

If needed, onwards referrals for nail surgery in the NHS.
