Morton’s neuroma is a painful condition affecting the ball of the foot, most commonly between the third and fourth toes. It occurs when a nerve becomes irritated and thickened, often due to pressure or compression from tight footwear or repetitive activities. Symptoms can include burning pain, tingling, numbness, or a sensation of having a small stone or lump inside the shoe. The discomfort may worsen when walking, running or wearing narrow shoes.
Treatment:
May include wearing wider, comfortable footwear, using cushioned insoles or metatarsal pads, reducing activities that aggravate the pain, and taking appropriate pain relief. If symptoms persist, corticosteroid injections or surgery to relieve pressure on the nerve or remove the affected nerve may be considered.
