Ill fitting footwear causing pressure to the nails,
Sporting activities,
Poor foot care / neglect.

Treatment:

Mechanical nail reduction / resection,
Nail packing,
Burring the nail to reduce thickness,
If needed, onwards referrals for nail surgery into the NHS.
