Athlete’s foot is a common fungal infection that affects the skin of the feet, particularly between the toes and on the soles. It develops in warm, moist environments, such as sweaty socks and shoes, where fungi can grow and multiply. Symptoms may include itching, redness, burning, dryness, flaking, cracked skin and, in some cases, blisters. The condition can cause discomfort and may spread to other areas of the foot or body if left untreated. Athlete’s foot is contagious and can spread through direct skin contact or contaminated surfaces, such as communal showers and changing-room floors.

Treatment:

Usually involves assessment, antifungal creams, sprays or powders. Keeping the feet clean and dry, changing socks regularly and wearing breathable footwear can help prevent the infection from recurring.
